True Terror is a series I began when I started thinking about Nerves of Steele. I love crossovers. I also love horror. I especially love serious-minded, tough, military personnel being confronted with terrifying, psychotic horror situations. I think it makes for an interesting dynamic, one that I love exploring. I made a list of things to cross over with Halo, and there were some on the list I felt less confident about. There’s monsters and narratives I feel really sure about crossing over with Halo, I know exactly how I want to handle them.
Then there’s others, weirder ones, that have caught my interest, but I’m not so sure about. I decided creating a side series was a fair compromise, since I didn’t want to just abandon the ideas. What we got was True Terror, which began in early 2017 when I became obsessed with Slenderman. The series features protagonist Ashton Kane, a grim, stark, miserable ODST with not a whole lot left to live for, going up against the weird, insane, and outright alien.
[COMPLETE]
A small team of battle-hardened Orbital Drop Shock Troopers are given a strangely simple assignment in an isolated region of space. As they settle into orbit over a small colony world named Darkholm, Corporal Ashton Kane feels his suspicions growing.
The seemingly simple assignment complicates when scans show a strange interference of unknown origin blanketing the region they’re supposed to investigate. Things only get worse as he becomes separated from his squad after dropping from orbit.
The night is dark, the rain is heavy, and something of unknown and unknowable evil stalks the forest around him as he hunts for his lost squad. Something far more powerful and deadly than he has ever faced before.
